(now rebloggable)
I am for gender equality. That’s why I’m a feminist. And men’s rights activists, or MRAs, actually are against women’s rights. They fight for the “rights” of men at the expense of equality for women. They’re trying to end the Violence Against Women Act. They don’t want strong women in their precious video games or movies. They compare women to mentally handicapped people and children. They truly believe, in spite of all the current and proposed laws about abortion, birth control, forced ultrasounds, mandatory waiting periods, sex education and pregnancy, and society’s general attitude toward slut-shaming, that “only women have the extraordinary freedom to enjoy sexual intimacy free from the fear of forced parenthood.” They believe that men are just as objectified as women in comics. They assert that we aren’t being oppressed at all. They complain about women being gold diggers under the guise of “hypergamy.” They kill themselves and write angry screeds accusing feminists of ruining men and inciting a full-scale insurrection against women.
MRAs are in fact against both feminism and women’s rights. What rights do men want that they don’t have, exactly? To not be in the draft (that hasn’t been used since the 70s, and was a law enacted by men)? To get free drinks at their local bar’s Ladies Night?
The patriarchy hurts both men and women, which is why I’m against it as a feminist. MRAs just propagate the tenets of patriarchy at the expense of women.

So you know how MRA guys are always blahing about “Well, equality means I should be able to hit a woman!”
Why do you want to hit women so badly
Chilling.
(Trigger Warning: Chauvinism, Misogyny, Physical Abuse,Anti-Feminist hatred and rhetoric, Murder)
“Students at Arizona State University have been noticing flyers for an organization called the Men’s Rights Movement Group. And the group’s website claims that ‘Women have NEVER been systematically oppressed.’ We talked to the MRMg’s president to find out what these collegiate men’s rights activists are all about.”
Women have NEVER been systematically oppressed? I’m laughing so hard I almost spat out my icecream.
Even the most misogynistic assholes I know IRL admit that women where at least abused/oppressed in the past even if they think it wasn’t mens fault and it’s all over now. How do people so stupid even exist?
Oh gawd. I wish someone would start some shit like this over at my alma mater. They’d get their rhetorical ass kicked in fantastical new ways. I just love how from top to bottom, men’s rights activists always write about themselves and their ideology as being driven by what is “natural”, “truthful”, “the light”, “enlightenment”, “the good”, etc. etc. The language itself even lends itself to attitudes of divine entitlement to the sexist status quo.
Also, they link to the same site that sent trolls to my article on Lawsonry. You know, the dudes who called me a cunt and a bitch in the name of what is “good, true, and beautiful”! Sexism is overrrrrr.
Oh ho, wow. This article is /special/.
“On the contrary women were tirelessly protected and nourished. “
Ya know, as long as they weren’t sinful sluts/whores (Religion sure treats women well eh? Responsible for the first sin, tempts man into sin, a lesser form of man, non-virgin brides stoned to death.. and so much more), or got too uppity and spoke out about her husband raping her or beating her or something like that. As long as women knew their place, below men, they were protected. How nice. Did you know marital rape was only just made illegal actually in 1993?
“Because it was the man who went outside in the morning to do the manual labor only to return at dark. The man held the responsibility of bringing home the bread in a cut throat deadly wilderness.”
Because men told the women they should stay locked up in the home, given they were restricted from numerous jobs and had limited, if any, education. They basically had few options available other than staying in the home and birthing and taking care of the kids. This allowed men to have a (plenty of times unwilling I’m sure) servant at home who would do unpaid labor for them, and for men to have entire control over the money in the home. Women were made economically dependent on men, if you didn’t get a man, expect to starve. Not to mention the whole treated like property thing. (There’s nothing wrong with wanting to stay home and raise kids of course, it’s the issue of forcing women into it, which they were forced for quite a while, and the whole not getting paid and being entirely unappreciated for how much work they put into taking care of that home)
“While she stayed indoor with the kids, churned butter and baked biscuits, my forefathers were out there getting attacked by robbers, getting attacked by wild animals, natural disasters, plagues, mental and physical exhaustion you name it.”
Somehow.. the women were immune to all these things… and never got mentally or physically exhausted with taking care of the home because…? The implication is that.. that’s not real work. Nice.
“Who was inside sitting next to the fire reading a book? “
Men, women had to go make their dinner after all and take care of the kids.
“Who was it who risked his life to save the woman and children? Men.”
Who didn’t allow women to risk their lives if they so desired instead of being restricted and infantilized.. and kept out of so many places of status and power? Men. Pointing out that men have oppressed women is not hateful of men, it’s just pointing out a fact.
“Who is it who fends off wild animals of fangs and claws, fends off roving bands of barbarians?”
Refer to above. Also, women have fought in combat before, against invaders even, despite the restrictions men put on them to do so. Men as a group are not oppressed for their gender to the degree women are, because they were the ones oppressing women for theirs. Men are a privileged group, men have male privilege. Look around, look at the all the spheres of power and status… men inhabit them at an overwhelming amount, and always have, while they have spent quite a long time discriminating against and limiting women so they could. You can see it everyday, all around you, even with just the narratives that usually surround women with power (Ex.: The treatment of any woman in politics).
The straw feminism these kinds of MRAs have concocted in their heads is actually just a projection, they embody more of that movement than feminists ever will (manboobz proves that with every post).
I’m really sick of these kinds of MRAs acting as if feminists have something to prove to them. Feminists have a lot of stuff to own up when it comes to how it’s treated other marginalized groups within it… but to MRAs? No, not really. Because the majority of what I’ve seen with MRAs is the same old story, thinly-veiled misogyny that always comes out to say ‘women need to be thrown under the bus for the sake of men and male privilege needs to be maintained’.
